EVENT TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST

LOCATION: In-Office, Richmond, VA
Salary: $62,000

We are looking for a highly motivated multimedia specialist that gets excited to learn about and implement new technologies. The right candidate is focused on the effective, high-quality operation of our company’s audio/visual and technology components of our event. They enjoy being up-to-date with AV technologies and provide video conferencing and broadcast systems expertise.

The company's largest budgetary item is event tech; as such, the candidate needs to have a strong knowledge of AV technologies' architectural design and control system requirements.

To be successful as an event technology specialist, you should resolve problematic situations efficiently and have excellent communication and organizational skills. Ultimately, an outstanding event technology specialist should ensure the smooth a/v operations of a project and company technology.

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE TEAM:

  • Negotiate and ensure successful implementation of strategic audio visual and event technology agreements

  • Create standardized processes for a/v services

  • Design and develop a/v bundles and service offerings to enhance sales efforts

  • Develop company standards around A/V performance

  • Manage inventory and the maintenance of related A/V equipment.

  • Serve as showrunner and lead stage manager activities to include writing and preparing scripts with sound/lighting/visual cues

  • Serve as technical director for virtual events.

  • Conduct rehearsals and table reads with the tech team once scripts are completed, and cues are established

  • Develop standards and templates for various show tasks, such as creating playlists for walk-on music, luncheon, or dinner lists. 

  • Work cross-functionally with the film and creative team on equipment usage plans, showrunner and technical director visuals needed, and execution of streaming events or projects where the teams may need to collaborate

  • Lead corporate technology initiatives to include the integration of a new project management system, new radio/headset services, and on-site name badge printing. 

  • Assist with the development of an expansion plan for the technology team. 

  • Assisting with tech management by creating tasks, tracking progress, and resolving issues.

  • Preparing and maintaining A/V and technology documents and reports.

EXPERIENCE NEEDED

  • Relevant Work Experience: A minimum of 5-8 years of hands-on experience in event technology, specifically in audio-visual operations, live streaming, and event management software.

  • Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Multimedia Technology, Audio-Visual Production, Broadcast Technology, or a related field.

  • Certifications: Certifications from recognized industry bodies such as InfoComm (e.g., Certified Technology Specialist) or other relevant A/V technology certifications can be an added advantage.

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE

  • Software Proficiency: Familiarity with event management software, virtual event platforms (like Zoom, Webex, Microsoft Teams, etc.), and event registration tools.

  • Audio-Visual Equipment: Knowledge of A/V equipment setup, operation, and troubleshooting, including microphones, speakers, projectors, cameras, and lighting.

  • Live Streaming: Ability to manage live broadcasts and understand the nuances of different streaming platforms.

  • Networking: Basic understanding of network configurations, especially for large-scale events. This might include knowledge about Wi-Fi setups, bandwidth considerations, and troubleshooting connection issues.

  • Integration: Ability to integrate various event technologies, like mobile event apps, audience response systems, or virtual reality setups.

  • Graphic Design and Video Production skills: Proficiency in graphic design tools for creating event visuals, and skills in video editing, while not required, are a plus.

  • Problem Solving: Ability to quickly diagnose and address any technical issues during an event.

  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to work effectively with clients, event organizers, and team members.

  • Attention to Detail: Ensuring that all technical aspects of an event run smoothly requires a keen eye for detail.

  • Customer Service: Often interacting directly with clients or attendees, a courteous and solution-oriented attitude is essential.

  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple tasks, understand event timelines, and ensure that all technical needs are met on schedule.

  • Team Collaboration: Often working with a broader team of event planners, marketing professionals, and other technicians, a collaborative attitude is key.

  • Adaptability: The events industry can be fast-paced and unpredictable. The ability to adapt to changing requirements or unexpected challenges is crucial.

  • Continuous Learning: The technology surrounding events is constantly evolving. An enthusiasm for staying updated with the latest tools and trends can be an asset.

Work Hours: Standard 8:30a - 5:00p, with extended hours required in preparation for film shoots or when events need additional support.
