2022 Live Events - What's "In" As People Head Out?

*|MC:SUBJECT|*

The COVID-19 pandemic has been filled with constantly changing mandates and shifting trends. At this point, many people have had COVID, been vaccinated, or both. Maybe that's why so many people seem to have a new willingness to get out to in-person events after being hunkered down for so long.

Event planning has always been multi-faceted. The pandemic has added layers of complexity. We can predict ongoing experimentation and innovation when it comes to 2022’s in-person events. Here are three noteworthy trends we can anticipate.

  1. Hybrid Events - Although it seems to be business as usual in some places, our dependence on virtual events is not going anywhere. People want remote options to be permanent. In response to this demand, organizers are honing in on optimizing hybrid experiences. 63% of event organizers are planning hybrid events going forward. As marketers test innovative ideas in this arena, unlimited possibilities continue to emerge.
  2. Engaging Micro-Events - Most of us can access an infinite amount of information at our fingertips. We got extra used to doing so while living under work from home orders. A live speaker in a large arena will not have the same pull as it did pre-pandemic if participants can watch from home. In 2022, people are craving intimate, engaging experiences. 85% of event professionals cite attendee engagement insights as a critical factor in their success.

  3. No or Low Contact Planning - The days of buffets and handshakes seem like a century ago. People now have a heightened sense of keeping their distance from each other. We’ve all seen the emergence of QR code menus and contactless delivery. Organizers are striving to create innovative alternatives that are both upscale and safe. These considerations will be front and center as people return to live events in 2022 and beyond.
